It is the “nit de Sant Joan” Saint John’s Eve, the 24th of June.
In each corner of this diverse province history is relived to commemorate the great battles that took place between the Moors and the Christians, which the most iconic festivity of this land is named after.
The colour, the luxurious handmade costumes, the parades, the gunpowder and all the passion is on the streets, putting on a show that fills the senses.
The Moors and Christians festivities have their origins in the Reconquista, the Iberian Crusades to recapture the territory from the Muslim Moors in the Middle Ages.
And although they are celebrated in different countries, given the magnificence of this impressive performance in the province of Alicante, many towns have been declared to be of International Tourist Interest.
